The Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ekwe Ibas (rtd), has tasked the 1,902 corps members posted to the state for the one year National Youth Service Corps NYSC, on selfless services.
Ibas gave this charge on Tuesday, at the closing ceremony of the orientation exercise for 2025 Batch B Stream I corps members at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, where he urged the corps members made up of 811 males and 1091 females to be a source of joy to their host communities.
The SOLAD was represented by the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman NYSC State Governing Board, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika.
His words, “be a source of joy to the people of your host community, especially when it is considered that the people of the state are accommodating, hospitable and charitable.
“See Rivers State as your home and serve selflessly to leave enduring legacies in your host communities.”
In his address, the state coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe thanked Ibas for “the acquisition of 1000 brand new mattresses for corps members used on camp and commitment to upgrade the camp infrastructure soon.”
Oleghe lamented the impact of rain on the overall activities of the camping exercise, especially the flooding of the camp market, which he described as a menace.
He appealed to the state government to urgently intervene to provide solution to the problem.
The NYSC coordinator further advised the corps members to accept their posting in good faith and use the service year to develop soft and hard skills, leadership communication, problem solving and specific technical skills that will stand them out amongst their peers.
