The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has held its 2026 first quarter edition of book reading exercise at the Nigerian Content Tower in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The event featured a book authored by a Rivers state born renowned leadership expert, Dakuku Peterside with the title,
“Leading in a Storm” which explores practical approaches to leadership in times of uncertainty, crisis and institutional challenges.
The Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, Engr. Felix Ogbe who was represented by the General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr. Obinna Ezeobi, in his welcome address, said the book reading programme was imperative to NCDMB’s commitment to creativity and capacity development which form the mandate of the board in the oil and gas industry.
The ES pointed out that the exercise was planned to expose participants to practical leadership insights within and outside official duty areas.
The author, Dakuku said he drew inspiration to write the book from his long experience in public service as former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), his tenure as former member of the National Assembly as well as his experience during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dakuku emphasized that leadership in the time of crisis requires adaptability, clarity and resilience, noting that those without such qualities easily get confused when faced with leadership challenges.
He maintained that such leaders would be jittering and fumbling, not knowing what to do in the time of crisis, either in the area of communication and are bound to fail in their assigned duties.
The former NIMASA boss outlined a 7-point crisis leadership framework to include contextual intelligence, emotional regulation, sense making, agile decision making, communication, team work and continuous learning during and after crisis.
He added that true leaders are known by their actions during challenging moments and not rancour free periods.
The event featured question and answer as well as interactive sessions, drawing participants from the Association of Nigerian Authors, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, journalists, Media organisations and literary icons.
