Even when he is yet to recover from the shocking loss of his father, the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, has been thrown into another mournful mood, following the sad boat accident that claimed the lives of an unspecific number of people along the Yenagoa-Nembe-Brass water route.
This is coming even as rescue operations have so far yielded fruitful results. While about three bodies of victims have been recovered, TNN also learnt that some of the boat passengers have been brought out alive.

A student, Comrade Kpe Jeremiah Ayebainemi had said on Friday that that his mother and child who were on the boat had been successfully rescued, even as he noted that the ill-fated boat was loaded with goods beyond its capacity.
Ayebainemi, who is the student representative of Brass Local Government Federated Youth Council cautioned boat operators and owners to be mindful of overloading.
He also urged the Ministry of Transport, Waterways Authority and security agencies to checkmate boat operators to make sure they don’t overload them beyond their capacity.
Diri has since directed the relevant government agencies, including security agencies, to collaborate in the search-and-rescue efforts and ensure the recovery of all missing persons, just as he sympathised with injured victims and the families that lost persons in the sad incident.
He said the government would review the cause of such incidents in order to take steps to ensure safety of lives and goods on the state’s waterways.
