The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the death of 26-year-old Kehinde Asimiyu, who was stabbed with a broken bottle during a disagreement at Olodo area in Ibadan.
The incident occurred on November 1, 2026, when one of the suspects, Taiwo Babarinde, allegedly stabbed Asimiyu following a disagreement between them.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ayanlade Olayinka, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the command received information about the incident on the same day.
The statement added that the victim’s family learnt about the attack after an unidentified motorcycle rider arrived at their residence to inform them.
Police officers and a patrol team were immediately sent to the scene, while Asimiyu was rushed to Academy Hospital, Texaco, Iwo Road, Ibadan, where a doctor confirmed him dead.
His remains were later deposited at Adejare Embalming Centre for preservation, while photographs were taken as part of the preliminary investigation.
The police identified the two arrested suspects as Babarinde, who was suspected of inflicting the fatal injury, and Ishola Semiu, who was allegedly involved in the incident.
The command said both suspects were in police custody, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the incident triggered unrest at the Olodo Police Outpost, raising concerns about a possible breakdown of law and order.
The police said reports of threats by hoodlums led to the deployment of additional security personnel to the area.
The security operation involved personnel of the Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other local law enforcement agencies.
The command said the deployment had helped restore normalcy, while security personnel remained in the area to prevent further disturbances and protect residents.
As part of efforts to address the situation, Abimbola Olugbenga, the Commissioner of Police, directed the Area Commander, Moniya, to meet with community stakeholders.
Following the directive, the Area Commander held a meeting with representatives of the Local Council Development Area, leaders of tricycle and motorcycle operators, and youth leaders.
The meeting focused on finding solutions to the situation, improving communication with security agencies and promoting peaceful coexistence among residents.
The command warned individuals or groups planning to cause violence or disrupt public peace that such actions would not be tolerated.
Olugbenga urged residents of Olodo and surrounding communities to remain calm, avoid violence and embrace dialogue when resolving disagreements.
