Victims Count Losses In Rivers Fire Incident

Residents of No 9 Awkwuzu Street, Mile 1 Diobu in Rivers State, are in agony following the devastating fire incident that engulfed their residence on Tuesday morning.
Over 20 persons have been rendered homeless by the inferno which completely razed the building.
It is believed that the incident was caused by a female resident who left her cooking stove on in her room and went out.
One of the victims who spoke with TNN in a telephone interview lamented that she was “finished.”

According to the lady who introduced herself as Joyce Ebuka, “person go dey suffer another thing, the worse go dey happen, (tears). I no fit talk anything, I no even know wetin to talk, na this my brother wey help me bring out my things say make I talk with you, but no vex, I no fit talk (tears).
“As I dey here now I no know wetin even happen, I just hear fire, fire, piam, I run come out, my sister, as I dey here na finish I finish, I don finish be this.” She weeps.

As at the time of filing this report, TNN learnt that fire service was not on sight but that, the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mile 1, Diobu was on ground to prevent hoodlums from carting away victims’ properties.
