The acting Director General of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch, Mr. Matthew Iheanyi, has expressed dismay over the political crisis in the state.
Iheanyi explained that the misunderstanding between the immediate past governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and his successor, Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara, was posing great threat to the peace of the state.
He begged the warring parties to sheathe their swords and give room for peace.

The acting DG, in an interview with TNN on Thursday, said, “you know what neighbourhood watch stands for, it’s for security and the peace of the state.
“Election has come and gone, and we believe that we have a standby governor now, who God has positioned to lead Rivers State forward, what we are saying on the side of security is that what we want is peace in the state. As a security agency that is passed into law, we want to make sure that we maintain the peace we have in all the local government and Rivers State at large.

“I want to say that as the governor has taken a bold step in the decision he has chosen, what we want is that let everybody maintain that same peace, we want peace to reign in the state.”
Iheanyi added that, “as an Obio/Akpor son, we have ruled for eight years and we also believe that the leadership might change from one tribe to the other, and today it has gone to the Riverines, we want to give that support to that leadership that have moved from Ikwerre to another tribe.

“We want to give it a total support for that same eight years, because as we have seen, the eight years that our brother ruled, there was peace within the other tribe, anybody who feel that Rivers State will not have peace, as an agency that has been passed into law the person will be arrested and will be delt with, what we want is total peace in Rivers State.”
