The frosty relationship between the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and the governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has been mended.
A former governor of Delta State, James Ibori got involved and brought the duo together for peace talks.
The reconciliatory meeting ended Wike’s months of hatred for Diri. It was learnt that Wike was apparently angry that Dirii preferred to work with Atiku Abubakar as presidential aspirant in the PDP.
Wike was known to have started working against the re-election project of Diri, choosing instead to fraternise with Chief Timipre Sylva.
Wike even boasted publicly, that ahead of the November election in Bayelsa State, Diri should take whatever he would see.
During the last days of Wike as governor, Sylva was seen around Wike at some of the events organised to mark the end of his government.
A few weeks ago, when Wike was asked why he didn’t attend the burial of Diri’s father, he simply asked if the dead man would have resurrected assuming he had gone for the burial.
That aside, Wike took on Diri’s government just days before his exit, demolishing a property belonging to the state government on the excuse that the place was unkempt. It took the Supreme Court for Wike to back out.
Wike is said to have got some respect for Ibori, who refers to the former Rivers State governor as his younger brother.
With the intervention of Ibori, there are indications that Wike must have seen reasons not to continue with his war against Diri.
