Faced with accommodation challenge, the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Rivers State, is begging the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to remember his promise and approve the release of fund for the immediate commencement of the 1000-capacity hostel.
The NYSC state coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, made this appeal on Friday, at the permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai LGA, during the swearing in ceremony of corps members deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch B Stream 11 orientation.
Oleghe noted that the increase in the number of corps members deployed to the state necessitated the call for the immediate commencement of the 1000-capacity hostel each for male and female corps members.
Addressing the corps members, the NYSC boss urged them to render selfless services, be security cautious, dedicated to nation-building and electoral Integrity.
His words: “See your deployment to Rivers State as a veritable opportunity to make meaningful contribution to the growth of the state in particular and Nigeria at large.
“Serve with all sense of integrity, discipline, and the fear of God, especially when you will be engaged as INEC ad-hoc staff that will conduct the 2027 general elections.”
To Fubara, Oleghe appealed to “the governor to approve the release of money for the immediate commencement of the 1000-capacity hostel each for male and female Corps Members.”
The governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Promise Oguzie, assured that his administration ranked corps members high.
Fubara described corps members as an integral part of the ‘Rivers First’ Agenda.
The governor charged them to be role models and quality nation-builders in their service to the good people of the state in particular, and Nigeria at large.
He reaffirmed his administration’s intentional commitment to corps members welfare and security at all times.
A total of 3,584 corps members made up of 1,421 males and 2,163 females were sworn in by the Chief Judge of the state who was represented by Justice Godspower Aguma, who administered the oath of allegiance.
