Three natives of Omoku in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, have been arrested in connection with the murder of two police officers.
Those arrested were 28 years old Mr Kamachi Joe, 34 years old Mr Maduabuchi Emeka and 42 years old Chinedu Owhor.
Exhibits recovered during the arrest were three AK-47 rifles and one scorpion rifle.
The officers were attacked on June 29, 2026, while conducting a stop-and-search operation within the Aluu Division area. One of the officers leg was severely injured and later amputated.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, described the suspects arrest as a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the gruesome murder of two police officers.
Karbolo revealed that, “following the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of the two officers and resulted in the theft of their service AK-47 rifles, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State command, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, immediately visited the division and directed that all operational and intelligence assets of the command be deployed to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen police firearms.
“Acting on the directive of the commissioner of police, operatives of the command’s violence crime response unit VCRU, (AKU) through credible intelligence and sustained tactical operations, arrested three members of the gang, one Maduabuchi Emeka (Male), alias “Doctor,” 34 years old, a native of Omoku in Onelga LGA, one Chinedu Owhor (Male), 42 years old, a native of Omoku in Onelga LGA, one Kamachi Joe (Male), 28 years old, a native of Omoku in Onelga LGA.
“Exhibit recovered in total includes: Three AK- 47 rifles and one scorpion rifle. The suspect has also linked other murder cases currently under investigation.”
The PPRO noted that “intensive efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fourth member of the gang, who is currently at large.
“The commissioner of police commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, gallantly and dedication, noting that the breakthrough demonstrates the command’s resolve to ensure that those who attack police officers or engage in violent crimes have no hiding place in Rivers State.”
Further, the CP reaffirmed what he described as the command’s unwavering commitment to the initiative of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in protecting lives and property and bringing all criminal elements to justice.
He also warned all involved in crime that the long hand of the law will catch up with them to immediately desist or face the full weight of the law.
Adepoju emphasized that the state is not a safe haven for criminals, noting that the command remained resolute in identifying, arresting and prosecuting anyone who threatens the peace and security of the State.
The CP urged residents to sustain their partnership with the command by providing timely and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to combat crime and enhance public safety across the state.
