The Bayelsa State Government, has approved the monthly disbursement of ₦200 million to support active farmers across the state’s eight Local Government Areas.
The initiative was approved by the state governor, Senator Douye Diri, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
According to the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Prof. Beke Sese, the fund is exclusively for current and active farmers involved in livestock, poultry, fisheries, staple and cash crop production, agro-processing and other agricultural value chains.
The commissioner in a statement said extension officers from the ministry have been deployed across all wards in the state to facilitate the registration and capture of eligible farmers and ensure broad coverage of the programme.
According to the statement, active farmers seeking enrolment are required to present themselves at their farms with an active farm, passport photograph, a personal bank account, National Identification Card, Bank Verification Number and a valid phone number.
The ministry stressed that corporate bank accounts, Opay and Moniepoint accounts would not be accepted for the exercise.
The statement added that the farmer registration and capturing exercise was completely free of charge, further stating that farmers who have previously been captured or already received payment were not eligible for re-capture.
