Engineers Pledge More Support For NYSC

The Nigeria Society of Engineers, NSE, Cross River State branch has assured the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC scheme in the state of her unalloyed support anytime they are called upon. They said the scheme has proven to be reliable in ensuring its core aims are maintained over the years.
Chairman of the society, Ndifon Agbiji gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy call on the NYSC in Calabar.
He commended the NYSC Coordinator for the good works he has done since his posting to Cross River, especially for being a father of the youths who are deployed to the state for their one year mandatory youth service.
“The Coordinator is very accommodating and that is quite impressive and this has been obvious during our visits to the Orientation camps lately. I commend him for always giving us the opportunity to lecture during orientation camps, not just to Engineers only but the entire Corps Members in the camp, the NSE chairman stated.
He also commended the scheme for moulding the character of the youths throughout their service year, pledging that both bodies will continue to enjoy more synergy and cordial relationship.
He added that part of the reasons for the visit is to inform the NYSC Coordinator on the need to post Corps engineers to engineering firms to enable them to have the necessary requirements to prepare them for their exams. He said this is according to the Coreen Law as amended in 2009.
The NSE chairman further disclosed that the society has secured the posting of Corps Members to three firms in the state which are Lafarge, Eco marine and Cross River Infrastructural Limited. He assured them that they will secure 15 firms for the posting of Corps Engineers before the end of the year.
Responding, the coordinator promised that engineers deployed to the state will be posted to where they will be utilised. He also pleaded with them to post the Corps Members to places where their services will be needed to avoid idleness.

While asking them to submit the names of the organizations where they want the engineers to be posted to, he told them that the NYSC has a posting policy which covers four areas where Corps Members are posted to. He however promised to look into their demand, reiterating that they will only be posted to where they will be relevant. He promised to sustain the existing relationship between the society and the scheme in the state.
In his remarks, NYSC Assistant Director in charge of Press and Public Relations, Enuma Peter was delighted at the existing synergy between both organizations. He urged the NSE to ensure that such a relationship will continue to grow while assuring them that the NYSC will also continue doing her bid to ensure the relationship doesn’t get soared.
Also speaking, Pastor Ezekiel Ede who is in charge of Corps Inspection and Monitoring, CIM at the NYSC Secretariat pleased with the engineers to make concerted efforts to ensure that the welfare of Corps Members sent to them is not compromised. He said the provision of accommodation for Corps Members of transport allowance in lieu of that should not be compromised at all. He also charged them to ensure that competent engineers are deployed to the various construction sites the state government is carrying out to ensure that quality works and done, as well as a monitoring team for the inspection of such projects.
In his vote of thanks, immediate past chairman of the society, Dr. Joseph Ukpata said: “NYSC is a fantastic organization. You are doing a very good job. Keep doing it, we will do our best in supporting you. The relationship with NSE has been a very good one and we will continue to do our bid to sustain it”.
