John ODHE, Yenagoa
Families of some of the victims of brutality whose cases became public knowledge after the EndSARS protest have pleaded with the Bayelsa State government to hasten the processes for the implementation of the recommendations of the panel of inquiry set up to provide justice for victims of police brutality in the state.
Speaking to our correspondent in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, a member of the Civil Liberties Organization and rights activist, Comrade David West called on the state government to push the federal government and other relevant authorities to ensure that monies awarded to the victims by the judicial panel of inquiry were paid without further delay.

Others who commented on the issue lamented that the state government would be failing on its primary responsibility of taking care of the well-being of it subjects if it failed to implement the recommendations of the judicial panel of inquiry.
A legal practitioner, Thompson Alexandra who spoke to our correspondent described as worrisome the continuous delay by the government to pay the financial rewards awarded to victims by the panel.
He said he chairs a forum of lawyers who have taken it upon themselves to ensure that the victims are paid according to the recommendations of the judicial panel.
“We have written letters to the governor through the Attorney General of the state and another through the Chief of Staff and these letters were dully delivered with endorsement copies. They asked the government officials to draw the governor’s attention to the issue, knowing that the governor would do his best to deal with the situation if his attention was drawn to it.
