The people of Abuetor Community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have appreciated the State government and the governor, Senator Douye Diri for providing them with a link road after many years of suffering.
The agrarian community is happy that they can now assess the 18.5 kilometres Agbere-Elemebiri Road which is now under construction through sixty percent and forty percent sponsorships from the Bayelsa government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) respectively.
The President General of the community, Comrade Bartholomew Uti and the representative of the paramount ruler, Mr. Bartholomew Emeiveh were full of appreciation to the governor while speaking on behalf of the community.
“We are so grateful to governor Douye Diri because God has used him to ameliorate our sufferings. We are an agrarian community and it had been a herculean task for our farmers to convey their farm produce to the market because there is no road.
“This is a clear example of a listening governor. Diri promised to construct the Agbere-Elemebiri Road which had been abandoned for more than forty years.
“Today, the governor, His Excellency, Senator Douye, did not only fulfill his promise but also gave us a link road to the major road. May God bless the governor and grant him long life and good health.
“We also use this medium to commend the management and Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbukwu, for joining hands with the miracle governor to give us a road,” they added.
Also, the chairman of the community, Mr. Christopher Okei, appreciated the relevant authorities for the historic achievement, stressing the importance of the link road to the rural dwellers.
The women leader of the community, Mrs. Helen Onyema said the link road has brought to them a great relief.
“As rural farmers, we have suffered a lot because of the absence of road. There was no means of transporting our cassava and other farm produce to the market. We used to trek very long distance with heavy loads on our heads before assessing the main road which was also not tarred.
“Then, if you managed to see a motorcycle to help you convey your goods to the Zarama Market, you will pay through your nose,” she said.
“But today, we are so happy for our governor for giving us main road and link road at the same time. Now, vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles can drive freely to our door steps to carry our loads.”
With stone base milestone already achieved, the Link Road now serves as free access for farmers and traders to convene farm produce and goods in and out of the community without stress.
