The Rivers State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr Moses Oleghe, has charged corps members deployed to the state to use their culture to promote unity and champion peace in Nigeria.
Oleghe gave this charge on Sunday, while addressing the corps members during the 2026 Batch B Street 11 inter-platoon cultural carnival, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, in Tai Local Government Area of the state.
At the inter-platoon cultural event sponsored by Peak Milk, platoon 10 received a cash prize of N100,000 for emerging winner while platoon seven was gifted N50,000 for emerging second and platoon four N25,000 for emerging third.
The NYSC boss warned against actions that could divide, cause chaos, urging them to build the Nigeria of their dream through discipline and patriotism.
His words: “I want to charge you all to use your special status as elite youths and graduates to engender and orchestrate cultural revival in communities across Nigeria that promotes unity, peace and not chaos.
“Use knowledge you acquired from your academic training and experiences to improve on aspects of cultural practices that respect and value fundamental human rights, and in doing so, dispel the ignorance and darkness associated with certain cultural practices.”
Also speaking, the Commander, 6 Division Garrison, Nigerian Army, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt, Brig-Gen AA Bello, described corps members as Nigeria’s successor generation.
Bello who was the special guest at the event charged the youths to use culture to drive national unity.
He said he was delighted and satisfied with the quality of cultural display by the corps members at the event.
The commander advised them to build a Nigeria of their dream through discipline, patriotism, integrity and hard work, noting that “as corps members you are the threshold of leadership as the successor generation therefore, it behoves you to make Nigeria work and succeed.”
