As part of efforts to strengthen Ijaw bonds, the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, is set to host a pivotal ‘Mega Unity Reception’ on September 1, 2026.

The event which would hold at the Ijaw House in Yenagoa, will bring together Ijaw leaders, stakeholders and INC stakeholders, to strengthen reconciliation efforts within the Ijaw National Congress INC.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, the governor described the gathering as part of efforts to consolidate the reconciliation process in the INC.

On May 26, the Bayelsa helmsman, who is known as Governor-General of the Ijaw Nation, constituted a reconciliation committee chaired by Dr. Mathew Seiyefa, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Other prominent Ijaw leaders on the panel were a former Rivers State Deputy Governor, Sir Gabriel Toby, a former Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Brodrick Bozimo, former INC president, Chief Joshua Fumudoh, National Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Dr. Boladei Igali, and King Goddy Idaminabo.

Dr. Kingsley Kuku and Chief Patrick Erasmus headed the secretariat.

A month later, the committee submitted its report after engaging with aggrieved parties and other stakeholders.

The gathering of Ijaw leaders and INC stakeholders aims to reset the ethnic nationality’s foremost socio-cultural organisation and engender greater unity in Ijaw nation.
