Wike Suffers Fresh Humiliation

With the decision of a federal high court in Abuja, presided over by Mr Justice M. G. Umar to dismiss the case filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the expelled former national secretary of the opposition PDP, his benefactor and minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike has suffered a great loss.

This loss is coming when he is yet to recover from the humiliation he is suffering in the hands of workers in the FCT, who have refused to return to work, despite pleas by Wike. The workers say Wike has not bothered about their welfare.

It has been very turbulent times for Wike. He is still battling, unsuccessfully, to realise his ambition of controlling the political machinery in the PDP and the APC, even as his dream of getting the Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara out of the way has met some roadblocks.

In the suit, FHC/ABJ/CS/254/2025 -Anyanwu had approached the court seeking an order of injunction restraining his removal from office and to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or acting upon any documents or correspondence from the PDP that did not bear his signature.

The case underwent several procedural shifts, including being transferred from the suspended Justice Inyang Ekwo to Justice M. G. Umar.

On Tuesday, the court reaffirmed that matters concerning the internal leadership and administration of a political party were non-justiciable. This principle, reinforced by recent Supreme Court precedents, dictates that courts should not interfere in how political parties choose their officers.

The court also noted the existence of multiple parallel litigations over the same subject matter across various levels of the judiciary, including High Courts, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court.

The court observed that Anyanwu was elected as National Secretary of the party in 2021 and could not continue in office after the expiration of the term he was elected.

Although, Anyanwu has fought numerous legal battles to retain his seat. But he was among the high-ranking members expelled from the party during the Ibadan National Convention in November 2025. Wike was also expelled with him.

With the verdict, the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), which emerged during the Ibadan National Convention, seem to have taken charge of the affairs of the party.
