Uyo Submerged, Residents Flee Homes, Protest

There has been anguish, groaning and protests in Uyo, A kwa Ibom State, since Thursday morning when the state capital and neighbouring towns got submerged as a result of the heavy down pour that destabilised the entire state.

Scores of residents have already been rendered homeless, compelling the flood victims to either protest or curse the state government for failing to take actions to prevent the flood.

Those residing along the Tabernacle Road had a terrible experience as they watched their property, including cars, household items and even houses surrender to the wishes of the flood waters.

Apparently frustrated and confused, they decided to get into the nearby Ikot Ekpene Road to stage a protest, blocking the road and calling on the state government for help.

The situation was the same for those residing along the Ekpot Ossom Street. Most houses in that area were submerged. Shops and residential homes got affected, even as cars parked in compounds were made to float.

During the week, NIMET had raised the alarm of impending flood havoc in various states, including Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and some states in the south west.
