John ODHE, Yenagoa
Five months after he was arrested, Joseph Fekela has been finally arraigned before a State High Court sitting in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, for allegedly killing and burying one Kate Oguoh, 26, in a shallow grave in his house at Okaka, Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.
The remains of the young lady were discovered on July 29 in Fekela’s room after the girl had been missing for some days.
During the arraignment of the 27-year old male suspect on Thursday, mother of the deceased, Mrs. Ebimoboere Oguoh told our correspondent that what she wanted was for justice to be served on her late daughter.

The visibly sorrowful mother recounted that when her late daughter told her that she wanted to rent an apartment for herself, she never had the premonition that death was lurking around the young girl.
The bereaved mother said “my daughter told me she wants to live alone. So, I allowed her to go and rent a place. So, on July 28, I was calling her line but her line was not going through. I now went to where she rented her house. When l got there the whole house was scattered but I didn’t see my daughter.
“I never knew that my daughter has been killed. As you can see I am not okay. All l want is justice for my daughter.”

She is also calling on the police to arrest one Elizabeth, whom she described as her late daughter’s best friend who introduced the deceased to the alleged killer’s family house for rent, adding that since the day her daughter was discovered dead, Elizabeth had allegedly switched off her phone and her whereabouts unknown.
In a similar emotion laden voice, father of the slain lady, Sadik Oguoh, who was also present in court, said “today is a court day. You can see that there is no joy in me. But l am begging the government of Bayelsa state and the judiciary to stand for the truth.
“Whoever that kills should be made to face the full weight of the law.”
The state prosecuting counsel, Mr Ebimietei Ekeowei-Ottah, noted that the arraignment of the suspect was, however, stalled because the suspected murderer was not represented in court.
