The Rivers State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Mr. Moses Oleghe, has described the consequences and effects of drug abuse as devastating and destructive.
Oleghe gave this description when he led camp officials and corps members on a rally to mark the end of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, sensitization lectures for the corps members on camp.
He warned corps members on the danger of drug abuse, warning them against indulging in it.
The NYSC coordinator advised the corpers to stay away from drug abuse, in order not to bring shame to themselves, family and society at large.
Oleghe decried the high rate of drug abuse in the society, especially amongst youths, charging the xorps members to be in the forefront of the campaign against drug abuse rather than being victims.
He further enjoined them to stay drugs free and work hard to be critical stakeholders in nation building rather than as “a mental sick person who exist to torment family peace and happiness.”
The Head, NDLEA on camp, Chief Superintendent of Narcotics, Mr. Steven Nwogu, educated the corps members on the consequences of drug abuse.
Nwogu listed some of the consequences to include, mental, emotional, psychological, physical, financial and social consequences.
