As part of her social responsibility, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, District 9141 Nigeria, has donated a solar inverter to the pediatric unit of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Rivers State.
The donation made in partnership with Strata Base International, was in a bid to drastically reduce the increasing cases of infant mortality in the country.
Reports revealed that the absence of a more stable and sustainable power supply in hospitals has contributed immensely to the increasing cases of infant mortality across the country.
It is for this reason, that the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, District 9141 Nigeria, is supporting the pediatric unit of the Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital with a solar inverter.
The solar system which has been installed and put to use at the incubation section will help keep the babies in the incubator alive and in good condition.
Speaking to newsmen during the donation, the Rotary Governor, District 9141, Mr. Mightyman Aye Dikuro said, “there are several things that Rotary do around the world; it’s doing good. Today again, Rotary International through the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA has come to do one more good thing, coming to help lives.”
Also speaking, President of Rotary Club of Port Harcourt GRA, Good Ichemati, explained that, “solar inverter system will help the new born babies in the incubators, so that is why we thought it wise to do it and we know that it will touch lives, it will impact lives meaningfully.”
Present at the donation too, was the NDDC Rivers State Rep., Mr. Elekwachi Dimkpa, who believes that, “the lives of these children are in all our hands if we can help it, so we decided to partner with Rotary Port Harcourt GRA to get this done and get to the people who really need help.”
The managing director, Strata Base, Mr. Amakiri Oruamabo, explained that, “this is about saving lives directly. It’s a great initiative thrown by Rotary and I am proud to be part of such an amazing move.”
On their part, the hospital management expressed gratitude to Rotary club of Port Harcourt GRA and her partners for what they described as a lifesaving donation.
According to the chairman, medical advisory committee UPTH, Prof. Datonye Alasia, “it’s a very important project. It will help us to keep power supply steady, ensure that our incubators and other critical care equipment for the new born is functioning optimally.”
