National President of Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Mr. Prince Wiro, has called on the Rivers State Police Command to intensify investigations on the activities of yahoo boys in the state.
Wiro made this call shortly after the arrest of 12 suspected internet fraudsters who allegedly buried a new born baby at Andoni Waterfront, Eagle Island, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.
The human rights activist charged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter which he described as barbaric, wicked and bring the culprits to book.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with TNN, Wiro explained how he felt when he was informed that a new born baby was buried by suspected yahoo boys. According to him, “actually, I was somewhere that day when the chairman of Port Harcourt Security Watch, Victor Ohaji called me to alert me that that is what is going on at Eagle Island, that himself and the police have arrested some suspects.

“As a father and a human being, I feel very bad, it’s man’s inhumanity to man, it’s condemnable, it’s very barbaric and wicked because no matter how the thing is, it’s murder, somebody have been murdered and a new born baby in that matter, it’s very cruel for anybody under whatever guides to take the life of another human.”
On his charge to Rivers police, he said, “my charge is simple because when you don’t investigate matter thoroughly, when you don’t cross your t’s and dot your i’s when the matter goes to court, you will see court discharging the matter for lack of evidence.
“So I’m telling the Rivers police command to thoroughly investigate the matter to ensure that they get all collaborating evidence before they charge the suspects to court if they are found culpable in the cause of investigations.”

Wiro continued that, “The challenge is that for now nobody knows the parents of the child, so as the police are investigating they will now ask the boys where did they get the child from whether they kidnapped the baby, for now nobody know the parents, but if I know the parents of the child I will tell them to stand and ensure justice is done because what we see in some of these cases is before we know the parents been the complainants will go at the back to compromise, collect money and refuse to come forward to write statements even at the level of the police hereby compromising the matter.
“So if at the end of the day they uncover the parents of the child, I will advise them not to compromise, they should stand to ensure that justice is done in the matter.”
