The Rivers State Police command has debunked claim that its personnel attached to Bori Division in Khana Local Government Area of the state shot a motorcycle rider while enforcing restriction on motorcycle riding at night.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Kaborlo Blessing, insisted that the officer in charge of the area revealed arresting some violators while others ran away.
The PPRO also disclosed that the officer denied such incident as shooting a motorcycle rider
A youth leader, Mr Akanto Asogho, on Friday took to his Facebook to reveal that the supposed victim of the gunshot whose name was given simply as Mr Lekue was in a critical state at InnaDum Hospital in Bori.
Asogho said “while I’m against citizens flouting government order, police should apply caution when handling such terrible situation. They’re dealing with human beings that are difficult to control.
“I was reliably told that the council chairman Dr. Thomas Bariere Ariar in a tripartite (council, police and Okada raiders) meeting last Saturday, admonished the Nigeria Police to be civil when carrying out directive of the council.
“Just last night, a welder who was returning from work was allegedly shot sporadically by men of Nigeria police. The rider who is identify as Mr. Lekue ( a welder) from Luuyor Zaakpon is under a critical situation at InnaDum hospital Bori”.
