As part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Bayelsa State has urged children to always speak up and report cases of any form of molestation to their parents, caregivers and teachers.
The children were also advised to obey their parents, study their books and shun acts of getting them initiated into cultism and drug abuse in order to secure a better tomorrow.
Wife of the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police and chairperson of POWA in the State, Margret Iyamah gave the advice while celebrating with pupils of the Police Children School at the Police Officers Mess in Yenagoa.
She said her love for children drove the idea of celebrating with the pupils to go e them a sense of belonging and make them feel happy and honoured.
Head Teacher of the police children’s primary school, Iyalla Bagshaw and some of the pupils appreciated the POWA chairperson for identifying with the children on their day of celebration.
Some of the pupils, Master David Olale and Miss Favour Ogheneruru thanked the POWA chairperson for celebrating them and prayed for God’s blessing upon her and her husband, the commissioner of police, Bayelsa State command.
The children’s day celebration featured, presentation of food and gifts to the children, drama presentation, cultural display, dancing competition and a special dance with the commissioner’s wife.
