The outgoing Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, has charged officers in the command to support the newly appointed CP, Daniel Iyamah.
Iyamah was appointed following Idu’s elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
Idu urged the officers to support Iyamah and work closely with other agencies to enhance the safety of Bayelsa and its surrounding.
On his part, the new CP assured that the command would maintain a zero-tolerance approach to violence and organized crime, including kidnapping, armed robbery, sea piracy, and illegal possession of firearms.
He also directed officers to combat pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, illegal refining, and other acts of economic sabotage.
Iyamah stressed the importance of preventive measures to manage inter-communal tensions, youth disturbances, and election-related conflicts while ensuring overall peace and security, while urging residents to cooperate with the police by providing credible information and promoting harmony in their communities.
He highlighted the need for policing strategies that are adaptive and inclusive, given Bayelsa’s extensive waterways, oil and gas facilities, and dynamic youth population.
Iyamah further affirmed that the protection of lives, property, and critical infrastructure remains the Nigeria Police Force’s top priority.
Haven previously served in Bayelsa as deputy commissioner in the State Criminal Investigation Department and as deputy commissioner of police, Iyamah said he is familiar with the state’s security challenges and plans to strengthen the current system decisively.
