Nembe Boils as Natives Flee Over Soldiers’ Invasion
1 min readThe ancient town of Nembe Bassambiri in Bayelsa State is currently in turmoil, following the invasion of a combined team of soldiers and police personnel.
The security operatives were said to have invaded the town on Saturday night following information that there was an armoury there.
A clash was said to have ensued between the operatives and some youths of the town when the boys suspected that some of their kinsmen that they sighted in the company of the military personnel were part of the group suspected to be working against the interest of the community.
The youths were said to have confronted the soldiers in what was described as a move to defend the community against military invasion.
There were scanty information on Saturday night as to the real reasons for the invasion. But some people attributed the incident to the up-coming gubernatorial election.
TNN learnt that many people had to flee the town while some have sustained various degrees of gun shot injuries. There were speculations that some persons must have died, but the information could not confirmed as at press time.
TNN made efforts to reach police authorities on Saturday night but the police spokesperson could not be reached.
But Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, M,r Daniel Alabrah, in response to a message on the crisis said the government was studying the situation.
