Jonathan’s Domain Stands Still For APC
3 min readOgbia town, Bayelsa State, stood still on Monday as the All Progressives Congress, APC started a campaign for the take over of power in the state.
Speaking at Ogbia main town, headquarters of the LGA, the national chairman of the party, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole described the flagbearer of the APC, Chief David Lyon as a man who understands the language and spirit of the people and knows how to fight poverty created by the outgoing PDP led government.
Presenting the governorship flag to the candidate, Oshiomhole said, “I present to you a man who understands the spirit and language of the people. A man who has been creating jobs for his people.”
Speaking earlier, the Minister of State for Petroleum and former governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva said the present administration had failed Bayelsans hence change became imperative. Sylva added that the candidate of the APC has what it takes to effect the needed change.
According to him, the Dickson led restoration government had received over N1.2 trillion naira since it’s inception with nothing tangible to show for it.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, candidate of the party David Lyon said if elected, his government would focus on two cardinal points; fight against insecurity and development, adding that he would not betray the trust of the people in him.
“When I come in, you will not serve me but I will be your servant. Two things l will do. I will fight insecurity efficiently. After that, what remains? It is going to be development, development and development. I will not disappoint you,” he added.
Here are some tit bits on the event.
Sylva Raps Dickson
Leader of the APC in the state, Chief Timipre Sylva lambasted the state governor, Seriake Dickson for, in his words, wasting about N1.6trillion received so far from the federal government since he assumed office.
He also pilloried him for wasting state funds on an airport that is not useful even to the governor himself
Enogha set Ogbia on fire
Immediate past chairman of the state environmental sanitation authority, Chief Robert Enogha literally set his Ogbia town on fire upon arrival at the venue.
Women, men youths and entertainers sang praises of him as he moved round the venue to a rousing welcome.
Ex- Militant, Wilson, steals the show
Security operatives had a herculean task controlling the crowd when Reuben Wilson, a former militant, arrived the venue of the campaign rally, with scores of his followers.
Wilson, a former member of the PDP, moved into the APC some months ago and has been mobilising forces for the APC since then.
Oshiomhole, Sylva on fire
Oshiomhole and Sylva became entertainers of some sort at the rally venue.
Shortly after Sylva spoke, he took the APC national chair on a dance parade before handing the microphone over to him.
Oshiomhole, in his speech, said the APC was serious in taking over the state, hence the quality of delegation to the rally, including some governors and the deputy Senate president, Omo Agege.
He said the president had so much confidence in Sylva, hence his appointment as minister of state for petroleum.
Maxwell Oko as Protocol Officer
Even though he was not originally appointed into the protocol committee, Maxwell Oko, the NDDC executive director, finance and administration, was at his best, ensuring that visiting dignitaries had the best of reception.
He arrived the rally venue very early to supervise arrangements. Where he noticed some flaws, he immediately stepped in and put things right before the guests arrived. He is from Ogbia.
