Five years after a failed attempt to recruit about 1000 health workers in 2016 into the Cross River State health sector, community health workers and civil society organizations have decried inadequate manpower in the state’s health sector.
Accordingly, the state advocacy team of the global fund project in Cross River state, the Civil Society Organization has resolved to partner the National Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (NACHPN) Cross River State Chapter and other relevant government agencies to advocate for and ensure that the state government is persuaded into carrying out employment of basic healthcare workers in the state.
According to stakeholders, the call to urgently employ more healthcare workers in Cross River is necessitated by the findings from the community led monitoring teams on the Global Fund project through focus group discussion, key informant interviews and client exit interviews within the five LGAs of implementation, being Abi, Boki, Obudu, Odukpani and Yala.
Responding to questions on the health development, the Chairman, Association of Community Health Practitioners, Comrade Bassey Edet Okon appreciated the state advocacy team for partnering them to advocate for employment of healthcare workers in the state. He said the situation is dangerous for the health sector.
