C’River Rep: Itigidi Medical Centre Bill Gets Senate Nod, Awaits Tinubu’s Assent

Expectations are now higher on the proposed Federal Medical Centre, Itigidi, Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State, as the bill sponsored by Dr Alex Egbona, the member representing Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has received the concurrence of the senate.

Accordingly, the bill has been sent to The Presidency for his assent. It is the final action that would be taken for the medical centre to come into existence.

Egbona who feels very satisfied with the support of his colleagues in the National Assembly said on Monday that “in no distant time, we will have the federal medical centre in our federal constituency and this means a lot to us as a people.

“The journey has been long and tortuous. The joy is that we are gradually getting to the goal post and no sooner than later, not just the people of my constituency will be happy; the entire Cross River, neighbouring states and all that will equally enjoy this tertiary health institution.

“I am very hopeful that Mr President will give his assent soon. We cannot wait to see this happen. It has been our desire to have this come to pass and I know that we are gradually getting there.”

Egbona, who is the chairman of the House committee on specialty healthcare, has attracted many projects in the health sector to his constituency, including the reconstruction and equipping of health centres in all part of the federal constituency.

Only recently, he attracted solar powered energy projects to the health centres to assist the personnel in the discharge of medicare to the people.

According to him, “the Federal Medical Centre will be a crucial addition to our healthcare infrastructure, providing essential services that will save lives and improve the well-being of our people.
