C’River ‘ll Host Best Ever Calabar Carnival In December, Says Otu

The Cross River State governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has assured visitors, tourists and residents of the state, that the 2024 anniversary celebration of the Calabar Carnival which is set to hold in December, will be the biggest and best yet.

A release by his Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, revealed that the governor gave this assurance last weekend, when he kicked off the 20th Carnival Calabar Dry run which marked the first of three dry runs held annually to prepare for the main Carnival.

The event was characterized by lively and enthusiastic vibes, signaling the start of another fantastic carnival season in Calabar. Thousands of carnival enthusiasts from the competing bands and non-competing groups danced and paraded along the 12 km carnival routes in the state capital.

In the evening filled with excitement and celebration, Otu who was represented by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, restated the 2024 carnival theme as “Our Shared Prosperity”.

The governor also extended an invitation to visitors and tourists from around the world to join the 20th anniversary celebrations in December.

Chairman of the State Carnival Commission, Mr. Gab Onah, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming carnival and assured that all preparations have been made to ensure a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.

The dry run was attended by prominent figures such as the former governor’s wife, Mrs. Onari Duke, the State Commissioner of Police, Peter Okpara, and leaders of the seven competing carnival bands.

Others were Chairman of the Festival Committee, Mr. Effiong Ekpeyong and the Secretary of the State Carnival Commission Mr. Austin Cobham.
