Community Leaders Beg Obio/Akpor LG Chair As Flood Causes More Havoc

Stakeholders of the Eneka clan in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, have expressed helplessness over the devastating flood situation in their communities.
The leaders who took turns to express dismay over the incident in an exclusive Interview with TNN on Tuesday at the Rumuowha playground, lamented that residents in some flood affected areas where vacating their properties.
Explaining that the 2024 flood disaster appeared worse than the experiences in previous years, they called on the LGA chairman, Mr. Chijioke Ihunwo and the chairman of the flood control committee, Mr. Prince ThankGod Amadi, to urgently intervene.
The Director General of Strong Workshop, Mr. Emmanuel Bekwelem Chuku told our correspondent that he was more concerned about the safety of both the indigenes and non-indigenes residing in the affected areas.
Chuku expressed fear and stressed that, “it’s not safe for them. I wept when I visited those areas, tears filled my eyes. It’s not even about the properties but the lives of those tenants, landlords living there.
“I saw a man and his little children, flood have submerged their house, everywhere, from compound to sitting room, to kitchen, bedroom, everywhere, chai! It’s very terrible to behold.
“What of all these dangerous reptiles. My God, I feel pain, I wish I can take all of them out of such danger. They said they don’t have where to go, we need help.”
Also speaking, the president of Rumuowha Youth Council RYC, Eneka clan, Mr. Chukwu Progress Nwoburuoke, listed the affected areas to include; Owuru Road, Ohia-ntaWoji in Rumuowha community, Rumuchiolu, Rumuesara, Rumuogunuoma, Rumuosita communities.
Onbehalf of the community, the youth president called on the, “Obio/Akpor Flood Control Committee led by our own brother, Hon. Prince ThankGod Amadi to areas flood has taken over and residents are forced to leave their houses and properties.
“We plead to the local government chairman, our boss, our leader, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo and the flood control committee to come quickly to our aid and provide possible adequate and lasting solutions to this issue, we believe in the capacity of the chairman of this committee to deliver in this task given to him.”
He further thanked God for “the successful emergence of our boss, our brother and leader, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo as the chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
“Also congratulating our own brothers and illustrious sons of Rumuowha Community, Hon. Chizi Bobo Chuku and Hon. Prince ThankGod Amadi on their well deserved appointments as Chief of Staff to the council and chairman of the flood control committee in Obio/Akpor LGA. We pray that God guides him to succeed.”
