Africa Bids Farewell To FIFA World Cup 2026

Africa’s dream at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has officially ended. The final African representatives, Morocco, were eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 2-0 defeat to France at the Boston Stadium.

Despite a valiant effort, the Atlas Lions fell to a clinical French side, officially bidding farewell to the tournament.

The opening 45 minutes were tightly contested, with Morocco’s defense holding firm.

French captain Kylian Mbappé had a chance to open the scoring in the 28th minute, but his penalty was saved by Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. However, the French attack broke through in the second half.

Mbappé redeemed himself by scoring the opening goal in the 60th minute. Just six minutes later, Mbappé assisted Ousmane Dembélé, who doubled the lead to seal the victory.

Although the loss brings heartbreak to the continent, Morocco’s tournament run was historic.

The Atlas Lions became the first African nation to qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals on two separate occasions.

While this campaign has come to a close, African fans remain proud of the team’s resilience and strong performances on the global stage.
