With Iwuanyanwu’s Death, Will Drive For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Suffer Setback?

Thursday’s announcement of the death of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, president of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, there are fears that the push for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu may suffer a setback, at least in the meantime.

Iwuanyanwu was known to have spearheaded the campaign for the release of Kanu. He was seen to have mobilized stakeholders from Ndigbo, including top politicians, to lobby the president, Bola Tinubu to consider releasing the IPOB leader from the detention.

Apart from the public actions which he led, the former publisher of Champion Newspaper and presidential aspirant was believed to have taken many underground steps towards Kanu’s release, and also worked hard to unite the Igbos, at home and in The Diaspora.

His death was announced by his son, Jide on Thursday. The statement released by the son said he died after a brief illness.
