2026 Festival: Bonny LG Chair Disburses N53.5m, Says Culture Will Drive Tourism, Economic Growth

As part of preparation for the 2026 Fongu Mini Cultural Festival, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Amasenibo Abinye Blessing Pepple, has presented N53.5 million to 65 cultural groups.

The sponsorship cheques to 65 cultural groups participating in the festival was presented on Thursday, during a ceremony at the council secretariat.

The beneficiary groups comprised Owu-Ogbo, Okonko and Ere-Mini-Ogbo cultural groups.

Addressing the cultural leaders and representatives, Pepple reiterated his administration’s resolve to preserving and promoting the unique customs, traditions and cultural identity of the Bonny Kingdom.

He described culture as “a powerful tourism asset capable of attracting visitors, showcasing the Kingdom’s rich history and traditions, and strengthening the collective identity of the Bonny people.

“Investing in culture is also an investment in the local economy.”

The LG boss noted that “the Fongu Mini Cultural Festival creates opportunities for businesses, artisans, entertainers, transport operators and other service providers, thereby stimulating economic activities and driving sustainable development across the Local Government Area.”

He assured stakeholders that his administration would continue to support initiatives that promote tourism, preserve Bonny’s cultural heritage and create lasting socio-economic benefits for the people.
