The Bayelsa State government has warned that it would not hesitate to bring down the weight of the law on those peddling rumours that it is planning to relocate the College of Health Sciences at the Niger Delta University (NDU) Amassoma.
There have been recent speculations particularly on the social media space of alleged plan by the Bayelsa State government to move some academic institutions from their original campuses to the governor’s hometown.
The State government has dismissed such speculations as unfounded.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, on Wednesday, described the rumour as emanating from the concorted imagination of its purveyors.
The statement explained that the State governor, Senator Douye Diri, had neither approved such recommendation of a committee report nor was it in the contemplation of the government to relocate the college.
The government also stated that the annual admissions quotas for its two colleges of health sciences at the NDU and the Bayelsa Medical University (BMU) were still inadequate and that such action would disrupt the institutions’ academic progress and that of the medical students.
It advised those whipping up sentiments over the rumour to desist forthwith in the overall interest of the peace of the state.
