Why Ibas Hasn’t Resumed In Rivers As Sole Admin

Contrary to expectations that the sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibokette Ekwe Ibas, a retired naval officer, would resume early on Wednesday to take charge of affairs in the state, TNN can reveal that he would not be in the state until the National Assembly sits and ratifies his nomination by the president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Ibas, known to be a disciplined military officer, is however on stand-by and will arrive the state the moment the coast is clear. The National Assembly will be expected to deliberate on the president’s action on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, the senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio was in the meeting at the presidential villa with all the service chiefs where the decision to declare the emergency rule was taken.
As chairman of the National Assembly, he was said to have given his nod for the action. When the National Assembly sits, the expectation is that the emergency rule declaration would be ratified with the speed of light.
TNN learnt that Ibas may arrive the state either on Wednesday night or Thursday. Already, the suspended governor, Sim Fubara has ceased to function and the state cannot remain without a captain to pilot its affairs.
