EFCC On Stand-by As Fubara, Deputy, Others Move Out Amidst Tight Security In Govt House

There were fears on Tuesday night that the EFCC may go after the suspended governor of Rivers State.
The governor was removed from office by the president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu after declaring a state of emergency in the state.

In Fubara’s place, Tinubu named a retired Naval officer, Ibokette Ibas, as the administrator.
By this declaration, all democratic structures in the state have been suspended. Apart from Fubara and his deputy, all the elected house of assembly members who were at the centre of the crisis have been taken out.
Also, the August 9 local government election is not likely to hold any longer.
But it is not clear if the withheld allocations due Rivers State would be released by the federal government.
On Tuesday, there were two cases of pipelines explosions in Rivers State as a direct consequence of the crisis in the state.
By the time the emergency declaration was being made, TNN learnt that the suspended governor was still in Government House.
It was learnt that the EFCC may be brought in to hound Fubara in view of the allegations by the Martins Amaewhule house of assembly that the governor made expenses without budgetary provision.
Some of the governor’s aides were said to have been in the Government House as at the time of the declaration and started moving out their personal belongings shortly after.
It could not be immediately confirmed if soldiers had taken over the Government House as at Friday night.
