Victims Count Losses As Fire Destroys Property Worth Millions In Kano

Traders at the Yan Katako Market Rijiyar Lemu of Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, are in agony following the devastating fire incident that engulfed their shops on Monday morning.

Over 50 shops with property worth N150 million were destroyed by the inferno which started about 1am as confirmed by the chairman of the market, Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi.

Abdullahi explained that “over 50 shops containing plywood, foam, spray machine, chairs and other carpentry tools were destroyed by the fire.”

He added that the cause of the incident was yet to be ascertained and commended the state fire service personnel for their swift intervention. 

The chairman also called on the state government and philanthropists to support them, lamenting that many traders have lost their sources of livelihood.

Speaking on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the state fire service, Saminu Abdullahi confirmed that about 25 shops were completely razed down by the inferno, while several others were also partly affected.

Abdullahi explained that “we received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am.”
