The Chancellor of Arthur Jarvis University, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong has lamented that the university system has been spending precious time to mentor and rehabilitate students who engaged in drugs and cultism.
According to Arthur Jarvis, “we have a focal vision for the university, which is to train and educate our students; but we spend a lot of time to mentor and help the students from their excesses, in the areas of drugs and cultism.

“That is what I mean by saying universities are not rehabilitation centres. We should remain focused because we are losing lots of students across universities to cultism and drug abuse.”
The chancellor spoke at the institution’s maiden convocation ceremony where he also expressed happiness over the event. He said “I feel very fulfilled that I can have 18 students graduate with first class from our university.
“I feel blessed. With this, a lot of things will also be achieved. It’s not easy to be able to mentor children from secondary school throughout their university; I am grateful to all the staff and partners.
Commenting on the issue of security in the university, Archibong said “the more you keep bringing important projects like educational institutions to volatile communities that are prone to violence and security threats, the better, because the communities will rise up and start developing, thereby taking their minds off insecurity.
“So the more we have meaningful projects in such communities, the better for these communities.”
