Rivers State Chairman of Motorcycle Union, Mr Emmanuel Chiaza, has charged motorcycle operators in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, to participate in the ongoing profiling exercise.
Chiaza gave this charge on Monday, when the council chairman, Mr Charles Wobodo, declared open the motorcycle profiling exercise, at Isiokpo, Headquarters of Ikwerre LGA.
The state chairman who was represented at the event by the state treasurer, Chief Richard Amadi, revealed that, “the issue of motorcycle profiling has been discussed in a stakeholders meeting with the council chairman, Mr. Charles Wobodo.
“Some of the problems in Ikwerre Local Government Area are caused by some Okada ridders who indulge in criminal activities, hence the need for motorcycle profiling in the area.”
The exercise which is expected to run from Monday, March 16, to April 14, this year will feature presentation of identity cards, motorcycle particulars, National id cards and distribution of Apron to some motorcycle operators who participated in the profiling.
Earlier, the chairman-Wobodo warned that any motorcycle operator in Ikwerre LGA who failed to participate in the ongoing profiling exercise would be completely banned from operating in the area.
Wobodo who was represented by his special adviser on Transportation, Mr. Emmanuel Chika Ogele, explained that “the profiling exercise is necessary for every Okada man to participate, pointing out that any person who failed to participate in the profiling exercise would be completely banned.
“Motorcycle profiling is necessary in Ikwerre LGA, inorder to curb incessant criminality in Ikwerre Local Government Area. He said that every community in Ikwerre LGA would their own color for proper identification, pointing out that some Okada operators might go contrary to the decision of the council.”
He further appealed to the motorcycle operators to ensure compliance with the directive of the council or face the full wrath of the law.
