Corps Members in Rivers State are still awaiting the fulfillment of the promise made by the governor, Siminalayi Fubara’s, to construct a 2,000-bed hostel accommodation for members of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC.
On Tuesday, December 10, 2025, during the closing ceremony of 2025 Batch C orientation course for corps members deployed to the state, held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam Tai, Fubara approved the building of a new 1000 capacity hostel for male and another 1000 capacity hostel for female corps members.
Ten months after the governor made the pledge as part of his administration’s commitment to improve the welfare of corps members deployed to the state, the project has not commenced, not even a single block has made it to site.
As the delay persists, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, and other officials, have continued to express worry over the accommodation challenge following the increasing popular of corps members deployed to the state.
Oleghe is begging the state government for urgent action in executing the 1000 bed space hotel accommodation for male and female corps members.
The state NYSC coordinator revealed that the hostel when completed would ease accommodation shortage challenges following the increasing population of corps members deployed to the state.
Oleghe urged the governor to remember his promise and approve the release of fund for the immediate commencement of the 1000-capacity hostel.
He noted that the increase in the number of corps members deployed to the state necessitated the call for the immediate commencement of the 1000-capacity hostel each for male and female corps members.
