Bayelsa Holds Electricity Clinic With Stakeholders

The Bayelsa State Electricity Regulatory Agency (BYERA) says it will continue to work tirelessly to sustain the significantly improved power supply in the State under under its regulation.

The Director General of the agency, Doctor Rosalyn Dressman gave the assurance in Yenagoa during a programme tagged BYERA Electricity Service Clinic with the theme: Working Together To Make Reliable Electricity a Reality in Bayelsa State.

Electricity has tremendously improved in Bayelsa State with residents now enjoying 18 to 20 hours power supply per day particularly in most parts of Yenagoa, the state capital.

Many thanks to the Bayelsa State Electricity Regulatory Agency BYERA for combining the national grid and the state independent 60-megawatt gas powered turbine built by the governor Douye Diri led administration.

The director general of BYERA said the electricity clinic was designed to bring power supply regulation and customer service directly to the people.

She emphasized that it was also to provide a practical platform where electricity customers can meet directly with BYERA and electricity service providers to raise complaints, seek clarification, receive guidance and obtain follow-up on unresolved electricity issues.

Dressman noted that BYERA was committed to building an electricity market that is transparent, responsive, fair, investment-friendly and firmly centred on consumer protection.

She urged residents to complement the state government’s effort by paying their electricity bills and stop vandalization of transformers.

Also speaking, the General Manager of the Bayelsa Electricity Distribution Company Limited Nosa Okoro said power distribution in the State was not without challenges, adding that power consumers find it difficult to pay for tariff.

He added that metering of houses was ongoing across Yenagoa and other areas.
