A former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly and chieftain of the APC, Mr Cletus Obun is rallying support for the emergence of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the president of the 10th senate.
Obun said in an online interview with TNN that between Orji Uzor Kalu and Akpabio, the latter stood a better chance to become the next president. “Apart from being former governors and waiting senators, Akpabio has the double advantage of being a minister and a more senior ranking senator, having served as Senate Minority Leader.
“In terms of performance as governors, the Nigerian political lexicon got a new entry of uncommon governor. Nigerians cannot wait to have an uncommon senate president in Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio.”
Obun said Akpabio’s performance in Akwa Ibom was historic and monumental and that if elected by his colleagues, he would do better for the country.
“His performance in Akwa Ibom as governor rising from commissioner under the tutelage of Obong Victor Attah gave him a strong foundation with which met Akwa Ibom state as bronze and left it as gold. From the dualised roads linking the three senatorial districts ( Uyo -Eket , Uyo-Ikot Ekpene), from the transformation of Uyo Township stadium to the edifying Nest of Champions, the Akpabio International stadium ( named after him by the sitting governor, Udom Emmanuel), to the Sheraton and Le Meridien hotels in Ikot Ekpene and Uyo onto the abolition of the Okon- the – House boy syndrome, Sen Akpabio is simply an enigmatic personage whose pedigree is unassailable.

“To be first among equals at a time like this in our political evolution is an invocation of the spirit of Cicerone eloquence. Akpabio as Senate President will mark the return of true democracy given that president Bola Tinubu himself is a veteran if the red chambers where forensic rhetoric is the tea with which the bread of politics is eaten.”
