Mrs. Chima received several machete cuts, allegedly from her husband which landed her in a coma. It was reported that Mr. Chima and his lover descended on the woman with a machete for querying him for bringing his female lover home.

In his words, “my take is for the interest of justice, what has happened to Ego, it is not only limited to Ego if it is not curbed, it cannot be limited to Ego alone, it can be done to any other person, therefore, we want the matter to be charged to court, and trial should be carried out and the police should do their job and do a thorough investigation on the matter.

Because Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign are in for justice, has been the voice for the voiceless, and to stand for the vulnerable, so at every point in time, we are in for humanitarian services and that is my position.”

Also, state chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Mrs. Susan Serekara-Nwikhana, said, “it is disheartening to note that Mrs. Wakeago’s husband, Mr Chima had brought his girlfriend to their family house and when she queried the act the response she got was several machete cuts from her own husband and his girlfriend.

“Rivers NAWOJ is insisting that this case must not be allowed to slide away especially with the ongoing sensitization campaigns on sexual and gender based violence in the state.”
