Otu’s Intervention Needed as 24-Year-Old C’River Woman Battles Kidney Disease

A 24-year-old woman from Ibong Village, Obudu Local Government Area, Cross River State, has appealed for urgent financial support to fund a life-saving kidney transplant.

Akeogar Margaret Andokie was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2019. In June last year, her condition worsened, prompting her to begin dialysis at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, where she stayed for about five months with the help of a kind friend.

Since relocating to Calabar, Margaret said accessing dialysis has become extremely difficult.

“There is only one functioning dialysis machine here, and it frequently breaks down. My health continues to deteriorate—I now experience difficulty breathing, body swelling, and severe weakness, and I have to travel back and forth repeatedly just to receive treatment,” she explained.

Her doctors have advised that a kidney transplant is the most effective and permanent solution.

Unfortunately, the cost is beyond her family’s reach. With her father deceased, her widowed mother has been struggling to keep up with the expenses, while online fundraising has mostly gone into ongoing dialysis sessions, leaving little for the transplant itself.

Margaret is appealing to individuals and organizations for assistance.

“Any amount, no matter how small, will mean so much to me and give me hope for a healthier life. Your support can truly save my life,” she said.

Those willing to help can make donations to:
Account Name: Akeogar Margaret Andokie
Account Number: 9022957512
Bank: Opay

Margaret also urged that her story be shared widely to reach more people who can help.
