President, Ogoni Youth Development Initiative, Imeabe Savour Oscar, has accused the Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike’s led Rivers State Government of neglecting the people of Ogoniland.

Imeabe, who is also the National President of South-South Youth Initiative made this allegation in a release made available to TNN. He said “please permit me to talk to you about the level of neglect the people of Ogoni and the entire Rivers people has suffered in this current administration and to duly express our disappointment with the Governor of our dear Rivers State, His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, over his continuous hype of non-state projects he executes in Ogoniland.

“We have  maintained that Chief Nyesom Wike does not like the people of Ogoni and does not have ogoni people in his good book, hence, the less attention to the people. We are worried that opinion leaders, political actors do not see the negative part in the less celebrate projects that the governor is pilling in few communities of Ogoni ethnic nationality.

“In developed and civilized climes, projects like renovation of school are not issues for the public to celebrate, we wonder the reason for all the drum beats and dances to a project that a local government chairman can carry  out at ease without any support from the state.

“The governor today, visited Kpor Community in Gokana Local Government Area of the state to commission a secondary school that his administration renovated in the community. Renovation of a school to enhance teaching and learning is a welcomed development, but our worry is on why the contingent of governor of Benue State, Rivers Governor-elect and other dignitaries to the community. Was the school renovation with the best Laboratory equipment in the world? Was it renovated with a State of the Art Library? Was it renovated with an attached Health centre ?? Or with a vocational centre?? Was it renovated with enough manpower, I mean teachers brought in? So what then worth the celebration?”

Imeabe, “We are not surprised over this as the reason for the visit to Kpor is not to commission the said school as it is below the standard, but as an avenue for the governor to speak on current political issues in the state and the nation at large.

“As a political governor, we think that it would have been more honourable if the governor had silenced the temptation of using the background of a renovated secondary school for his political speeches today.

NDDC Boss Promises To Engage Youths In Productive Activities

“Ogoni people have suffered a great deal in this present administration. The administration of Chief Nyesom Wike has not deemed it necessary to site any world class project that would attract attention to the people. Are we not fit enough to host bigs institutions. Is Obio/Akpor Local Government Area too receptive to development than all the four local government areas of Ogoni? The governor has deliberately sited the approved Law School at Rumueme, Cancer and Cardiovascular Centre at Rumuepirikom, his home town, where there is not even enough space. This is amidst other outstanding institutions and projects. What has then happened to our dear Ogoni, the food basket of the state. Why are we relegated to receiving only renovated schools.”

He further urged the Ogoni people to, “remember that what is good for the goose is good for the gander. We also need good projects and institutions. We need our Sakpeenwa-Bori-Kono road to be completed with drainages. The governor has not expressed true love for the people of Ogoni as he has always claimed. We need good projects and institutions sited in Ogoni.”
