The appointment of Disu Olatunji Rilwan as the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, has been described as a welcomed development by a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC, in the state.

Though the APC chieftain did not mention names of those he was referring to, but he vehemently charged the new CP against taking side, mostly in political related crisis.
This is coming shortly after the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, ordered the posting and redeployment of 40 senior police officers comprising 14 Assistant Inspectors General of Police and 26 Commissioners of Police to various commands and formations in the country.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, said the postings and redeployments were part of a mandate to have a professionally competent, service-driven, rule of law-compliant, and people-friendly police force, and to reflect the new status of senior officers who were recently elevated to their next ranks.
Reacting to the posting of Disu to the state, Ekpendu said, “the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the new commissioner of police in Rivers State is a welcomed development.
“Some persons that worked with him, that communicated with him right from when he was a deputy commissioner of police, and worked in IG office, coordinating security men. I think he has the capacity.
“Don’t forget that Rivers State is a very sensitive state, you can still recall the experience we had in 2014, 2015 between Amaechi and former governor, Nyesom Wike. He should completely exempt himself from the ugly crisis going on between the current governor and his predecessor. His focus should be the safety of lives and properties of the people of the state.”

Ekpendu who described the appointment of Disu at this time as timely, noted that, “I think the removal of the commissioner of police is in order. That shows that the IG of police has capacity, he understands Nigeria political terrain.”
He advised the newly appointed CP to, “hit the ground running, make sure you don’t take side in anything, nobody should be in Abuja to manipulate you here, take example from what happened to your predecessor.”
