A socio-cultural pressure group, the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta MOSIEND, has cautioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, against alleged witch-hunting of the widowed wife of late Chief O.B Lulu-Briggs, Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs.
The pan Niger Delta group made this known in a statement made available to TNN, titled, “Re: Gross abuse of power and incessant harassment of Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs and Moni Pulo Limited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission: Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality (MOSIEND) urges EFCC to tread with caution.”

National president of the group, Kennedy Tonjo-West said the attention of MOSIEND had been drawn to a publication in the Vanguard Newspapers of Friday, July 22, 2022, where the person of Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs was allegedly attacked by some persons described as dubious elements.
The statement pointed out that one of the cardinal objectives of MOSIEND was to protect the interest of Izon people and their business concerns worldwide and to galvanize support for the Ijaws whenever they are treated unjustly.

The group complained that the widow of the late High Chief O.B Lulu-Briggs who is of the Ijaw extraction was being unfairly harassed and minimised with the intent to emasculate her financially and also deprive the teeming Niger Deltans albeit Nigerians that are benefiting from the corporate existence of Moni Pulo Ltd.
The statement read: “We view it reprehensible that the EFCC would seek and obtain a warrant of arrest on a law-abiding and productive citizen like Dr. (Mrs) Lulu-Briggs with the intent to arrest her within or outside the country. It is also farcical that dubious elements who have been fingered in diverse times for embezzling the weal and fortune of Nigeria are allowed to go scot-free in contradistinction to an innocent widow who is being hounded for no just cause.
“Regarding the forfeiture of shares in Moni Pulo Ltd. by Dan Obuekwe, it is on record, anecdotally, that a deed of settlement midwifed by the EFCC had been executed as far back as 27th February 2008, it is mind-boggling that four years after the execution of the deed and the attendant monetary compensation paid to Dan Obuekwe by Moni Pulo, he sought fresh reliefs in court laying claims to 30% of the shares to which the wise trial Judge threw his claims to 30% stake in OML 114.

“It is disheartening, if not mischievous that peradventure, following the demise of High Chief O. B Lulu-Briggs, Dan Obuekwe and his co-travellers were enervated to file a fresh legal action on 4th February 2021 before the Federal High Court, Calabar, claiming the reliefs for which he was worsted in the Port Harcourt suit. This appears rather mischievous and frivolous.
“It appears that the EFCC is being used as “Bulldogs” to hound and oppress Dr Seinye, they were emboldened to put her on the Immigration watch list thereby embarrassing her, soiling her reputation and that of her late husband whom she is yet to recover from his demise. Even when the Federal High Court awarded cost against the EFCC and the Immigration, they still hound and embarrass her at will.
“Since MOSIEND is abreast with the different cases filed by the EFCC against Moni Pulo Ltd. and Dr Seinye, the EFCC and its co-travellers should not present themselves as approbating and reprobating at the same time.
“The body language of the EFCC smacks off a party with a vested interest. We want to be in tandem with the suggestion that Dr Mrs Seinye Lulu-Briggs is being victimized by her gender and her state of widowhood which was yoked upon her by mere happenstance. We pray all parties that in concert with one of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights ” the right to fair hearing ” the widow of our highly revered Chief Lulu-Briggs be given a fair hearing on all cases instituted against her.
“More galling and disturbing are the paradigmatics of absentia that Dr Seinye is being victimized, hounded and embarrassed to decimate the fortunes of Moni Pulo, a Niger Delta business concern built by the great Ijaw Legend, High Chief Dr O. B Lulu-Briggs of blessed memory. We see it as another well-scripted plot to impoverish the Niger Delta region from having access to the attendant benefits of black gold in our backyard.”
The group further called on well-meaning Nigerians to, “draw the attention of the EFCC and its allies to desist forthwith the use its plenary powers to further minimize, harass and victimize our illustrious daughter, Dr Mrs Seinye Lulu-Briggs and allow her to observe her moments of solitude, her moments of reminiscing on her late husband and not to be continually hounded by State apparatus. A word is enough for the wise.”
