In commemoration of the ninth memorial of his death, the Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta MOSIEND, has lauded the achievements of late Chief Diepreye Solomon Alamieyeseigha, describing his legacies as notable.

In a release made available to TNN on Thursday, the foremost Niger Delta mass mobilization organization, said that one of Alamieyeseigha’s most notable contributions was his consistent advocacy for greater resource allocation to oil-producing states.

The MOSIEND National President, Dr. Kennedy Tonjo-West, described the first civilian and indigenous governor of Bayelsa State as a unifying force for the Ijaw people.

According to Tonjo-West, “Alamieyeseigha worked tirelessly to unite the Ijaw nation. Alamieyeseigha, affectionately called the “Governor-General”, was always quick to stand for Ijaws in need and in addressing their concerns.

“His vision centered on ensuring that a significant portion of the wealth generated from the Niger Delta’s natural resources was directed back into the region to combat underdevelopment, environmental degradation and poverty.

“His advocacy drew international attention to the Niger Delta’s struggles, making it a focal point in discussions about resource equity.”

The MOSIEND leader added that, “beyond his political role, he was a unifying force for the Ijaw people, promoting their recognition and fighting against their marginalization.

“During his tenure as governor, when militancy was at its peak, Alamieyeseigha engaged with the key actors and was respected by the youths, his influence extended beyond Bayelsa, fostering solidarity among ethnic groups in the Niger Delta and advocating for unity in addressing shared challenges.

“His strong belief in self-determination, economic empowerment, and autonomy for the Ijaw people left a lasting legacy, inspiring young leaders and activists to continue the fight for the Niger Delta’s rights.”

He further noted that the late Alamieyeseigha also worked alongside leaders such as former governor which he enlisted to include, James Ibori, Victor Attah and Peter Odili.

He added that he Alamieyeseigha “fought for the interests of the Niger Delta. His contributions remain deeply appreciated in the region.”
