How Police Nabbed Bayelsa Bridge Vandals

The Bayelsa State Police Command has revealed how another suspect of the Angiama-Oporoma Bridge vandalism was apprehended after weeks of evading arrest.

Following an intelligence report, operatives of the state Criminal Investigation Department lunched a coordinated operation that led to the successful arrest of two suspects so far for allegedly vandalizing the newly commissioned 630-metre bridge.

The command said on July 3, 2026 one of the suspects named; Daniel Tarila 26 from Angiama community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was arrested in Agiama community while in possession of two iron plates suspected to have been removed from the bridge.

On July 14, 2026, the command noted that it acted on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the second suspect named Peres Daniel 31, also of Angiama community.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Musa Mohammed, the second suspect was arrested at Obele street in Yenagoa, the State capital.

The PPRO hinted that investigations were ongoing and suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, in the statement restated the command’s commitment to protect critical national infrastructure.

He warned that acts of vandalism and sabotage of public properties would not be tolerated, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around government facilities and critical infrastructure to the nearest Police.
