Journalists in Rivers State have continued to call for the immediate release of Mr. Joshua Rogers Ogologugo, a staff of Channels Television.

Almost 24 hours after his abduction in front of his gate at Rumuosi in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, he is yet to be released.

In a release made available to TNN by the Chairman, Reuben Okwa, and Secretary, Francis Golden, the Andoni Practicing Journalists Association APJA, described Rogers kidnap as barbaric against the pen profession.

The association explained that “Andoni Practicing Journalists Association APJA received with shock the report of the kidnap of the PRO of the Association and Channels Television Correspondent in Rivers State.

“To think that Joshua who was kidnapped at his Port Harcourt residence was whisked away upon return from an official assignment on Thursday night is barbaric and senseless.

“It is highly regrettable that journalists, who are always at the forefront in the battle for social change, accountability, transparency in governance and social justice are victims of the vices they stood against.

“We condemn the kidnap of Mr. Joshua and appeal to his abductors to release him unconditionally without delay.”

They further called on “law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to secure the release of Joshua Rogers from his abductors hedge.

“Finally, the abduction of Joshua has heightened the call on government at all levels to ensure the protection of Journalists while carrying out their legitimate responsibility as watch dogs of society.”
